This hiking route takes you to the beautiful Chalet du Col de Balme in a stunning alpine setting. The trail is 8.167 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 696 meters, making it a difficult hike that will take around 3 hours and 37 minutes to complete.
Starting at the trailhead, you will pass by various points of interest along the way. Just a short distance from the start, you will find a parking area where you can leave your vehicle before embarking on the journey. As you continue on, you will come across Le Pcheu restaurant and Buvette fast food spot, perfect for a quick snack or meal.
About 1.89 kilometers into the hike, you will reach Le Chalet de Charamillon restaurant, offering a great place to rest and refuel. Further along the trail, at around 4.03 kilometers, you will reach Col de Balme with an information point and a boundary stone marking the France-Switzerland border.
For a scenic picnic spot, you can stop at the picnic site located 1.87 kilometers from the start. Additionally, at 4.08 kilometers, you will find Chalet du Col de Balme, where you can enjoy a cozy stay in the alpine hut.
The route is an out-and-back type, so you will retrace your steps back to the starting point after reaching the destination. Remember to bring plenty of water, pack some snacks, and check the weather forecast before setting out on this challenging yet rewarding hike.
