Welcome to the hiking route in Meteora - Kastraki! This area is known for its stunning rock formations and monasteries perched atop towering cliffs.
As you begin your hike, you'll come across the Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas at the beginning of the trail. This historic monastery dates back centuries and offers a glimpse into the region's rich heritage. Further along the trail, you'll find the cave entrance of the Monks' Prisons, a unique natural attraction located about 0.62 kilometers from the start.
Along the way, you'll pass by a viewpoint where you can take in panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Be sure to stop and rest at the bench located conveniently along the trail, approximately 0.01 kilometers from the start.
As you continue on, you'll encounter peaks such as the Wall Beta (B) and Wall Gamma (G), both offering unique vantage points and challenging terrain for more experienced hikers. These peaks are located about 0.92 and 1.05 kilometers from the start, respectively.
For a refreshing break, there is a drinking water station situated near the trail, just 0.01 kilometers from the start. Make sure to stay hydrated, especially on warmer days.
Throughout the hike, you may also come across several parking areas for convenience. Keep in mind that the trail is an out-and-back type, so you'll retrace your steps on the way back.
With a total distance of 2.107 kilometers and an elevation gain of 34 meters, this hike is considered easy and suitable for hikers of all levels. Remember to bring plenty of water, wear sturdy hiking shoes, and check the weather forecast before setting out.
