The GR20 is a renowned hiking route known for its challenging terrain and stunning views. Spanning a distance of 12.74 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1018 meters, this trail is classified as extremely difficult and requires strong physical conditioning.
Starting at the parking area, hikers will embark on an out-and-back journey that takes them through the rugged landscapes of the area. Along the way, you will encounter various points of interest that add to the allure of the hike.
At the beginning of the trail, you will come across the Col de Vizzavona, a picturesque saddle that marks the start of your adventure. As you continue, the Bergerie des Pozzi shelter will provide a perfect spot for a rest break, located 1.22 kilometers from the trailhead.
Further along the route, you will pass by a series of information points that offer insights into the natural and historic significance of the area. Be sure to check out the Fort de Vizzavona ruins and the Fontaine des bergeries des Pozzi spring, located at 1.27 kilometers and 1.22 kilometers from the start respectively.
For nature enthusiasts, the trail also offers the opportunity to spot natural landmarks such as the Punta di Zorpi peak and the A strada antica - Vizzavona Carbuccia viewpoint. These points are located at distances of 5.87 kilometers and 4.13 kilometers from the trailhead, providing captivating views of the surrounding landscapes.
