This hiking route will take you through the breathtaking area of Avenida Hermanos Ayar to Machu Picchu. The trail spans a distance of 21.34 kilometers with an elevation gain of 948 meters, making it an extremely difficult hike with a duration of approximately 7 hours and 18 minutes.
Along the way, you will come across various points of interest that will enhance your hiking experience. At the beginning of the trail, there is a parking area located just 0.0 kilometers from the starting point. As you continue your journey, you will pass by the Paradero PK 116.500 Inkaraq'ay shelter at around 4.5 kilometers from the start.
Around the midway point, at 10.67 kilometers from the start, you will encounter a scenic viewpoint that offers stunning views. Further along the trail, at 8.63 kilometers from the start, you can visit Mariposas de Machu Picchu, a butterfly sanctuary that is worth exploring.
As you approach the end of the trail, you will reach the iconic Machu Picchu site packed with restaurants and accommodation options for weary hikers to rest and refuel. Some notable eateries include La Leña Grill, Cafe Americano, and Kcuychi among others.
