This hiking route will take you to the stunning Pic de Montaigu in the Bigorre region. The trail is 15.456 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 1440 meters, making it an extremely difficult hike. It is recommended to be well-prepared and in good physical condition before attempting this challenging trek.
Starting from the trailhead, you will come across various points of interest along the way. At the beginning of the hike, you will find a parking area for your convenience. As you make your way through the trail, about 2 kilometers in, you will pass by a spring where you can take a refreshing break.
Continuing on, at around the 6-kilometer mark, you will reach the picturesque Lac de Montaigu, a beautiful mountain lake perfect for a rest stop and enjoying the serene surroundings. Just a bit further, at 6.01 kilometers from the start, you will reach Col de Tos, a scenic saddle offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area.
As you near the summit, at 7.73 kilometers from the start, you will arrive at Pic de Montaigu, the highest point of your hike. Take in the breathtaking vistas from the peak before heading back along the same trail.
On your return journey, make sure to visit the Cabane d'Arrodets, a charming unguarded shelter located 4.48 kilometers from the start, providing a cozy spot to relax and refuel before completing the hike.
Additionally, at 1.68 kilometers from the start, you can explore the Cascade de Magenta, a beautiful waterfall that adds to the scenic beauty of the trail.
