This hiking route takes you through the historical area of the Forbidden City in the Dongcheng District. The trail is circular, starting and ending at the parking area near the entrance.
As you begin your hike, you will pass by several points of interest. At around 0.17 kilometers from the start, you will come across the East Prosperity Gate (东华门), a historic city gate. Further along the trail, at 0.41 kilometers, you will see the Tongzi River (筒子河), providing a serene natural backdrop to your hike.
Midway through the trail, at approximately 0.46 kilometers, you will encounter the City Walls of the Forbidden City. These ancient walls offer a glimpse into the rich history of this location.
As you continue your journey, you will pass by various other city gates and water features, each adding to the charm of the hike. Keep an eye out for unique landmarks such as the Meridian Gate (午门) and the Imperial Waterway (水系).
The total distance of the hike is 1.161 kilometers with no significant elevation gain, making it super easy in terms of difficulty. However, be sure to bring an ample supply of water and check the weather forecast before setting out.
