This extremely difficult out-and-back hiking route will take you to the beautiful Sonnenjoch area. The 13.189 km trail has an elevation gain of 1002 meters and is estimated to take around 5 hours and 33 minutes to complete.
Starting at the trailhead, you will pass by the Otto-Leixl-Hütte alpine hut at 5.28 km from the starting point. As you continue on, you will come across various water sources at around 2.08 km, 2.38 km, 3.84 km, and 4.08 km from the start, providing opportunities to refill your water bottles.
Around 5.25 km into the hike, you will encounter a historic memorial, followed by a drinking water source at 5.28 km. The Heutaljoch saddle is located at 3.07 km from the start, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The highlight of the hike is reaching the Sonnenjoch peak at 6.59 km from the start, where you can enjoy stunning vistas of the area. Along the way, you will also find informational points at 5.3 km and 6.59 km, providing insights into the local flora, fauna, and history.
