This hiking route to Galinakopf is extremely difficult, covering a distance of 20.039 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1178 meters. The total duration for this hike is approximately 7 hours and 35 minutes.
The trail starts at Wanderparkplatz Alpe Gamp, where you can leave your vehicle as there is no fee for parking. As you begin your journey, you will come across an information point at the trailhead, providing you with some insights about the area.
At the beginning of the hike, you will pass by Vordergamp, a historic wayside cross located 3.45 kilometers from the start. Further along the trail, you will find a bench at the 3.23-kilometer mark, offering a nice spot to take a break and enjoy the scenic views.
Midway through the hike, approximately 7.25 kilometers from the start, you will reach Mattleralpe, an alpine hut where you can rest and maybe grab a bite to eat at the nearby Berghaus Mattajoch restaurant, located 3.49 kilometers from the start.
As you continue on the trail, you will pass by another bench and a wayside shrine at the 3.45-kilometer mark, providing more opportunities to take a break and appreciate the surroundings.
Towards the end of the hike, at the 10.02-kilometer mark, you will finally reach the peak of Galinakopf, offering stunning panoramic views as a rewarding finale to your journey.
It is important to note that the trail also passes by Schwarzer Brunnen, a natural spring located 4.28 kilometers from the start, but it is slightly off the trail.
Given the length and elevation gain of this hike, it is recommended to bring plenty of water, snacks, and to check the weather forecast before embarking on this challenging adventure.
