This extremely difficult 17.039-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will lead you to the stunning peak of Carnedd Gwenllian (formerly known as Y Garnedd Uchaf). The trail starts at a parking area and quickly immerses you in the natural beauty of the area.
As you make your way along the trail, you will come across several water features, including lakes and streams, perfect for a quick rest and some picturesque views. Approximately 1.24 kilometers from the start, you will encounter the Site of the Eigiau Dam Breach from 1925, adding a touch of historic interest to your hike.
As you continue on, at around 8.52 kilometers from the start, you'll find yourself at the foot of Carnedd Gwenllian, ready to take on the challenge of reaching its peak. The elevation gain of 602 meters adds to the difficulty of the hike, so make sure to come prepared with plenty of water and snacks.
For a rewarding experience, reaching the peak of Carnedd Gwenllian will offer breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area. On the way back, take your time to enjoy the peacefulness of the landscape and perhaps take a moment to ponder the history of the ruins and landmarks you passed by earlier.
