This extremely difficult 13.013 km circular hike will take you through the stunning Hirtenstieg area in the Nationalpark Harz. The route includes an elevation gain of 279.0 meters and is estimated to take about 3 hours and 42 minutes to complete.

Starting at the parking area near Parkplatz Waldhotel, you'll begin your journey surrounded by the beauty of the Harz mountains. As you make your way along the trail, you'll come across various points of interest. About 5.68 km into the hike, you'll find the Rasthütte Am Scharfenstein cafe, a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy some refreshments.

Continuing on, about 0.24 km from the trail, you'll see the impressive Ilsestein rock formation, a historic attraction that is worth a visit if you have the time. Along the way, you'll also encounter informational points such as Der Harz für Mountainbiker and Nationalpark Harz, providing you with insights into the local area.

As you approach the midway point of the hike, approximately 5.8 km from the start, you'll find a water source at about 5.61 km from the trail, named Scharfenstein, where you can refill your water bottles and rest for a bit. Further along the trail, at 1.34 km from the start, you'll come across shelter facilities at Zanthierplatz and another shelter at 0.46 km from the start.

While the hike is challenging due to its length and elevation gain, the breathtaking views and unique landmarks along the way make it a rewarding experience for hikers. Remember to bring plenty of water, snacks, and appropriate gear for an outdoor adventure of this level.
