This hiking route takes you through the stunning area surrounding Knappensee. The trail spans a distance of 12.415 kilometers with an elevation gain of 616 meters, making it an extremely difficult hike that will take approximately 4 hours and 24 minutes to complete. Before embarking on this adventure, be sure to pack plenty of water, as well as snacks and appropriate gear for the challenging terrain.
As you begin your journey, you will pass by the Oberer Giglachsee, located 2.91 kilometers from the start of the trail. This serene lake is a perfect spot to take in the natural beauty of the area. Further along the trail, at the 6.21-kilometer mark, you will come across the Knappensee, another picturesque body of water that offers a tranquil setting for a rest stop.
If you're in need of a break, the Giglachsee Hütte, a cozy alpine hut, is located 2.62 kilometers from the start of the trail. Here, you can refuel with some delicious food and take in the breathtaking mountain views. Additionally, the Ursprungalm restaurant is situated 0.33 kilometers from the trail, providing another opportunity to grab a meal along the way.
Throughout the hike, keep an eye out for various benches and information points that offer insight into the surrounding nature and history of the area. At the 5.88-kilometer mark, you will also spot the Ehemalige Knappenhäuser, or former miner houses, providing a glimpse into the region's past.
As you near the end of the trail, be sure to visit the Preuneggsattel information point, located 2.5 kilometers from the start, and take a moment to appreciate the wayside cross at the 0.17-kilometer mark. Finally, the endpoint of the hike is the Knappensee, offering a rewarding finish to your outdoor adventure.
