This extremely difficult 17.588-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will take you to the stunning Lac de la Madeleine in a picturesque area filled with historic ruins, natural water features, and even a restaurant for sustenance along the way.
Starting from the parking area at the trailhead, you will begin your journey towards Lac de la Madeleine. As you hike along the trail, you will come across various points of interest. About 3.72 kilometers into the hike, you will find the first set of historic ruins, followed by more ruins at 4.19 and 4.23 kilometers from the start. These ruins provide a glimpse into the area's rich history and are a great place to take a break and explore.
Around the 5.57-kilometer mark, you will reach La Taque, a wheelchair-accessible restaurant where you can refuel and rest before continuing on your trek. Further along the trail, at approximately 7.86 kilometers from the start, you will encounter Lac des Cordes, a natural water feature that adds to the scenic beauty of the area.
Continuing onwards, at around 8.79 kilometers from the start, you will finally reach your destination, Lac de la Madeleine. This beautiful lake is the perfect spot to relax, have a picnic, and enjoy the serene surroundings before retracing your steps back to the trailhead.
With a total elevation gain of 558 meters, this hike is not for the faint of heart. It is essential to come prepared with plenty of water, snacks, proper hiking gear, and to check the weather forecast before embarking on this challenging adventure.
