This extremely difficult hiking route will take you along the Kellerbauer Weg to Chemnitzer Hütte, up to Speikboden, and then back along the same path. The trail covers a distance of 13.546 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1524 meters, so be prepared for a strenuous journey.
Starting from the beginning of the trail, you will find parking facilities nearby before heading towards Pietersteiner Alm, which offers a beautiful viewpoint at 4.65 kilometers into the hike. As you continue onwards, you'll reach a free flying site at the 6.77-kilometer mark, perfect for watching paragliders take off.
Around the halfway point, at 6.1 kilometers, you'll come across Sonnklarhütte, a restaurant where you can rest and refuel before tackling the remaining ascent. At just 0.03 kilometers from the trail, Kohlgrube pub and a fountain provide a refreshing stop for hikers.
Throughout the hike, there are various viewpoints and information points to enrich your experience, such as the viewpoint at 6.12 kilometers and the information center at 6.77 kilometers. Drinking water is also available along the trail, with wheelchair-accessible fountains and water spots.
As this is an out-and-back route, be mindful of your energy levels and pace yourself accordingly. The trail offers challenging terrain and significant elevation gain, so make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and proper hiking gear.
