This extremely difficult out-and-back hiking route, known as the Sulphur Mountain Traverse Route, covers a distance of 18.639 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1313 meters. The estimated duration for completing this challenging hike is about 7 hours and 35 minutes.
Starting off, hikers will find themselves at the beginning of the trail near the Banff Gondola parking area. The trailhead is easily accessible, and hikers can park their vehicles here before embarking on their journey.
As you make your way through the trail, about 0.28 kilometers in, you'll come across the Upper Hot Springs, a popular attraction in the area. This may be a good spot to take a break and relax before continuing on your hike.
Around the 5.01 kilometer mark, there is a viewpoint where you can take in stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This could be a perfect spot to capture some memorable photos of your adventure.
Further along the trail, at about 7.86 kilometers in, you will reach the peak of Sulphur Mountain. This is a significant milestone on the hike, offering breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment for reaching this point.
Midway through the journey, at around 9.32 kilometers in, there is another viewpoint that provides a different perspective of the scenery below. It's worth taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of the natural surroundings from this vantage point.
Before heading back, hikers can refuel at Sky Bistro or Northern Lights Cafe, located about 4.94 kilometers from the trailhead. These dining options offer a chance to replenish your energy levels before continuing on the return journey.
