Welcome to the hiking route to Cheminées de fées in the beautiful area surrounding Ubaye.

This extremely difficult 15.9-kilometer out-and-back trail will challenge even experienced hikers with an elevation gain of 810 meters. It is crucial to be well-prepared with plenty of water, snacks, and appropriate gear before embarking on this adventure.

Starting at the parking area at the trailhead, you will soon come across Maison du Bois and La Fresquière, two information points that provide interesting insights into the local area. These are located close to the beginning of the trail, so take some time to learn about the surroundings before continuing on your journey.

As you progress further along the trail, you will reach a lovely picnic site situated midway through the hike, offering a perfect spot to rest and refuel while enjoying the stunning views of the landscape.

Around the 6.51-kilometer mark, you will find Cabane de Chaude Oreille, a wilderness hut where you can take a break and possibly spend the night if you're undertaking a multi-day trek. Just a short distance away at 7.95 kilometers, you will encounter the unique natural rock formations known as Cheminées de fées. This extraordinary sight is a must-see along the trail, so be sure to have your camera ready.

Finally, at the same location as the rock formations, you will find a viewpoint that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area, providing a perfect ending to your hike before starting the return journey.
