Welcome to the Wannenkar hiking route! This challenging and extremely difficult 15.342-kilometer out-and-back trail offers breathtaking views and historic points of interest along the way.
Starting at the trailhead, you will first come across the Schmuggler artwork, a unique piece that marks the beginning of your journey. As you continue, you will pass by several parking areas, making it convenient for hikers to start their adventure. Remember to bring plenty of water and snacks as the trail can be strenuous due to its 841.0 meters elevation gain.
About 2.74 kilometers into the hike, you will reach the Rasthaus Timmelsjoch restaurant, a perfect spot to refuel and enjoy a meal before continuing your trek. Midway through the route, at around 4.03 kilometers, you will encounter a water source, providing a refreshing break for hikers.
As you trek further, you will come across various historic ruins, showcasing the area's rich history. Around the 6.51-kilometer mark, another water source will be available for a quick rest stop. Additionally, be sure to visit the viewpoints and information points along the way for stunning panoramic views and interesting facts about the surroundings.
At approximately 7.66 kilometers, you will find the Wannenkarsattel saddle, offering a unique vantage point of the landscape. Finally, the trail culminates at Passo del Rombo (Passo del Rombo), where you can take in the beauty of the peak before heading back.
