Welcome to the Wannenkar hiking route, a challenging and extremely difficult trail that spans 13.294 kilometers with an elevation gain of 589 meters. This out-and-back route will lead you through a beautiful area with stunning viewpoints and historic points of interest.
Starting off at the trailhead, you will come across the "Schmuggler" artwork right at the beginning of the hike. As you continue along the trail, you will pass by several parking areas, including one at the 2.74 kilometer mark, where you can leave your vehicle before embarking on this adventure.
Around the 4.03 kilometer mark, you will find a water source to refill your bottles and take a break. Further along, at the 6.51 kilometer mark, another water source will be available for hikers. These pit stops provide opportunities to rest and rehydrate on your journey.
As you progress, you will encounter various historic ruins scattered along the trail, offering a glimpse into the past. These ruins can be found at different points along the way, adding a sense of intrigue to your hike.
At the midway point, you'll reach the Rasthaus Timmelsjoch restaurant, a perfect spot to refuel and recharge before heading back. This restaurant is wheelchair accessible and provides a convenient place to grab a meal.
Additionally, make sure to visit the viewpoint at 2.74 kilometers, where you can take in breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape. Information boards and artworks, such as the "Chair Austria" and "Chair Italy," can also be found along the trail, enriching your hiking experience with cultural insights.
