This extremely difficult 12.142-kilometer circular hiking route, known as Strada delle Malghe, offers a challenging yet rewarding experience for avid hikers. The trail boasts an elevation gain of 917 meters and is estimated to take around 5 hours to complete.
Starting off at the parking area near the trail, hikers will find convenient facilities to leave their vehicles before embarking on the journey. As you begin your hike, you'll encounter another parking area located right at the trailhead, ensuring easy access to the starting point.
Approximately 6 kilometers into the hike, at around the 5.99-kilometer mark, you will come across a natural water source. This is a perfect spot to refill your water bottles and take a refreshing break before continuing on the challenging path.
Along the way, at about 7 kilometers in, you'll find the historic wayside shrine of Sant'Antonio. Although slightly off the trail, a short detour is worth it to admire this cultural gem and learn about its significance.
As you near the end of the trail, around the 5.99-kilometer mark, you'll encounter an information point where you can gather insights about the area and its surroundings.
Before setting out on this demanding hike, it is essential to be prepared with plenty of water, snacks, appropriate hiking gear, and to check the weather forecast. Due to the length and elevation gain of the trail, hikers are advised to be in good physical condition and to pace themselves throughout the journey.
