This extremely difficult hiking route will take you on an out-and-back journey to the Refugi de Coma de Vaca in the beautiful area near Girona, Spain. The trail covers a distance of approximately 12.954 kilometers and has an elevation gain of 933 meters, so be prepared for a challenging adventure.
Starting from the parking area, which is conveniently located at the trailhead, you will begin your trek into the wilderness. Along the way, you'll pass by the informative markers that provide interesting details about the surrounding natural and cultural features. About 5 kilometers into the hike, you'll come across the stunning Salt del Grill waterfall, a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the scenery.
Continuing on, you'll reach the Cascades, another picturesque waterfall that adds to the beauty of the route. As you approach the midpoint of the trail, you'll find the Caseta del Canal wilderness hut, a great place to rest and refuel before continuing your journey to the Refugi de Coma de Vaca.
Near the end of the trail, at approximately 6.48 kilometers from the start, you'll reach the alpine hut which serves as your destination. Here, you can rest, enjoy the stunning views, and perhaps spend the night before heading back.
It's important to note that this hike is considered extremely difficult due to its length and elevation gain, so make sure to be well-prepared with proper hiking gear, plenty of water, and snacks.
