This extremely difficult hiking route will take you through the stunning Cucaracha-Aceral-Junta de los Ríos area, offering breathtaking views and a challenging adventure.
Starting at the Barranco de San Juan parking area, you will embark on a 14.1-kilometer out-and-back journey with an elevation gain of 625 meters. Make sure to pack plenty of water and snacks as this route will take nearly 5 hours to complete.
Along the trail, you will encounter several points of interest. At the beginning of the hike, you will come across Mesón Barranco de San Juan, a quaint restaurant where you can fuel up before your trek. About midway through the route, you will find the Refugio de la Cucaracha, an alpine hut offering a rest stop for weary hikers.
As you continue on, you may spot the Ruinas, historic ruins that are slightly off the trail. Be sure to check out the various viewpoints along the way, such as Mirador de las Nortes and other scenic spots that offer panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
