This extremely difficult out-and-back hiking route will take you to the beautiful Hochkogel area. With a total distance of 11.845 kilometers and an elevation gain of 1349 meters, this challenging hike is not for the faint of heart.

As you start your journey, you will pass by the Werfener Eisriesenwelt parking area, located right at the beginning of the trail. Make sure to admire the stunning views of the surrounding area as you continue your trek towards Dr. Oedl Haus, a cozy restaurant located 2.9 kilometers from the start.

Further along the trail, at about 3.3 kilometers from the start, you will reach Eisriesenwelt, a captivating cave system that is definitely worth exploring if you have the time. As you continue your ascent, you will come across Achselkopf, a majestic peak located 4.21 kilometers from the start, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the area.

Midway through your hike, at around 5.92 kilometers from the start, you will encounter Hochkogel, another impressive peak that marks the turnaround point of the route. Take a moment to rest and refuel at Wimmerhütte, a charming restaurant located 0.95 kilometers from the start, before making your way back.

Don't forget to stop by the various viewpoints, benches, and informational points scattered along the trail to learn more about the area and catch your breath. Remember to bring plenty of water, snacks, and proper hiking gear, as this challenging route will put your stamina and endurance to the test.
