This extremely difficult hiking route will take you on an out-and-back journey to Bivacco Santa Maria on Strada comunale del Tour. The trail spans a distance of 9.564 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1702 meters, so be prepared for a strenuous trek through the picturesque landscape.
Starting off, you'll come across the Croce di Ferro (3306 m) wayside cross, a historic landmark located about 4.24 kilometers from the beginning of the trail. As you continue, you'll encounter the Rifugio Ca' d'Asti alpine hut nestled 2.8 kilometers into the hike. This cozy refuge offers a place to rest and refuel before tackling the rest of the journey.
Further along the trail, at approximately 4.78 kilometers in, you'll find the Bivacco Santa Maria shelter. This makes for a great turnaround point to take in the stunning surroundings before heading back. Nearby, there are also two viewpoints that offer breathtaking vistas of the area.
For a unique experience, make sure to visit the Madonna del Rocciamelone artwork located about 4.78 kilometers from the trailhead. Additionally, the peak of Rocciamelone stands majestically at the same distance, offering panoramic views for those willing to make the climb.
