This hiking route takes you through the stunning Mont Cenis Grand Paradis area, offering breathtaking views and challenging terrain. The route is an out-and-back trail with a total distance of 9.564 kilometers and an elevation gain of 1702 meters, making it extremely difficult but rewarding for experienced hikers.
As you start your journey, you will come across a parking area at the beginning of the trail, where you can leave your vehicle before embarking on the hike. Just a short distance from the start, you will find a drinking water point to refill your water bottles and stay hydrated throughout the hike.
Continuing on, at around 2.8 kilometers into the trail, you will reach Rifugio Ca' d'Asti, an alpine hut where you can take a break and enjoy some refreshments while soaking in the mountain views. Further along the trail, at approximately 4.24 kilometers, you will encounter the historic Croce di Ferro (3306 m), a wayside cross that adds cultural significance to your journey.
As you make your way to the turnaround point at Bivacco Santa Maria, located at 4.78 kilometers from the start, you will pass by several noteworthy landmarks. These include Bivacco Santa Maria, a shelter where you can rest before heading back, a viewpoint offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, and the Madonna del Rocciamelone artwork.
At the end of the trail, you will have completed a challenging hike that rewards you with stunning views and a sense of accomplishment.
