Hiking through the stunning Hochkönig region offers adventure seekers an extremely difficult yet rewarding 12.141-kilometer trek with an elevation gain of 1558 meters. The route is an out-and-back trail, starting at Dientner Sattel.
As you begin your journey, you will pass by the Dientner Sattel parking area and Birgkarhaus restaurant within the first 100 meters. Make sure to top up your water bottles and grab a snack before heading out. Midway through the trail, you will find a bench where you can take a moment to rest and absorb the breathtaking views of the surroundings.
Continuing on, you'll reach the Franz-Eduard-Matras-Haus alpine hut, offering a cozy place to stay for the night. The trail also takes you past Hochkönig peak, a must-see attraction just over 6 kilometers from the starting point. Admire the majestic views before pushing forward.
Further along the route, at around 4.38 kilometers from the start, you'll encounter Königsjodler via ferrata, providing a thrilling challenge for experienced climbers. As you make your way back, stop by the Mittereggalm restaurant to replenish your energy with a hearty meal.
