This challenging hiking route will take you through the stunning mountains of Ganekogorta, located in a picturesque area with breathtaking views. The trail is an out-and-back type, stretching over 8.576 kilometers with an elevation gain of 472 meters, so be prepared for a good workout.
As you start your journey, you will come across the parking area at a distance of 0.0 kilometers from the trailhead. Make sure to park your vehicle here before embarking on the hike. Along the way, you'll encounter a drinking water station just 0.02 kilometers from the start, perfect for refilling your water bottles and staying hydrated.
Around 0.63 kilometers into the hike, you'll reach the Otsoa begiratokia viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This is a great spot to take a break and capture some stunning photos.
Further ahead, at 2.08 kilometers from the start, you'll find the peak of Gazteluzar/Arranotxe, where you can admire the beauty of the mountains from a higher vantage point. Continuing on, at 3.9 kilometers from the beginning, you'll reach the peak of Arrabatxu/Belaurko, providing even more stunning views of the area.
Halfway through the hike, at 4.29 kilometers, you'll encounter the Ganekogorta peak, offering a sense of accomplishment and a perfect spot to rest before heading back. At the same location stands the Mesa de orientación viewpoint, where you can take in the surrounding beauty and orient yourself with the landscape.
It's important to note that there are historic sites along the trail, such as the 1º and 2º Asentamiento para ametralladora (battlefield) sites. These sites offer a glimpse into the area's history and add an interesting element to your hike.
