This extremely difficult 14.922 km out-and-back hiking route will lead you through the breathtaking area of Black Craig. The trail starts at Glen Tanar parking area where you can leave your vehicle before embarking on this challenging adventure.
As you make your way along the trail, you will come across several points of interest. At the beginning of the hike, you will pass by Trout Loch, a serene water feature just 0.56 km from the starting point. Further along the trail, at 0.46 km, you will encounter another picturesque water source. Additionally, at 0.29 km into the hike, you will find another water spot, and at 0.42 km, you will pass by yet another body of water.
About halfway through your journey, at 5.57 km, you will reach Half Way Hut, a shelter where you can rest and refuel before continuing on. As you push further along the trail, you will also pass by Glentanar House, a historic manor located 0.14 km off the trail.
One of the highlights of the hike is reaching Black Craig, a peak that stands at 7.46 km from the starting point. The panoramic views from this vantage point are truly breathtaking.
Given the length of the hike and the 315.0 meters of elevation gain, this route is recommended for experienced hikers. Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and proper hiking gear. It's also advisable to check the weather forecast before setting out on this challenging adventure.
