This challenging hiking route will take you to the Ancien Glacier de Calabre area, offering stunning views and a rewarding trek. The trail spans a distance of 7.30 kilometers with an elevation gain of 738 meters, making it a difficult but exhilarating adventure.
As you begin your journey, you will come across a water source just 0.51 kilometers from the start. It can be a good spot to refill your water bottle before continuing on the trail. Around 1.5 kilometers into the hike, you'll encounter the Rifugio Pian della Ballotta, an alpine hut where you can take a rest and enjoy the surroundings.
Further along the trail, at 3.41 kilometers in, you'll reach the Col de la Lose / Passo della Losa, a saddle offering panoramic views of the area. This is a great place to take in the scenery and capture some photos.
At the 3.65-kilometer mark, there is another water source, providing another opportunity to hydrate before the return journey. Additionally, there is a parking area right at the beginning of the trail, making it convenient for hikers to access the starting point.
Please note that there is a waterfall located 1.54 kilometers from the trail, slightly off the path. While not directly on the trail, it may be worth a short detour to visit this natural wonder.
It's important to come prepared for this challenging hike by bringing plenty of water, snacks, proper footwear, and checking the weather forecast before setting out. The trail is an out-and-back route, so you will retrace your steps on the way back.
